Sometimes I’m moved to poetry
Sometimes I just forget
You know I aspire to great things
I haven’t got there yet
I know this is the real thing
Still I’m rehearsing my lines
Of what I should have said to you
Back there in the good times
Well I tried to let go
I know you already did
But you just keep cropping up in my mind somewhere
Let’s keep it simple
I did you wrong
Now I keep a vigil
And I pray it won’t be long
Here comes the man, the man of the moment
Don't try to hold him back
Can't keep a good man down
She caught me drinking her moonshine
And yes it was true
The bottle was still at my lips
So how could I deny the drips
Still trickling down my chin?
I told her what held me back
How one day the harness snapped
Yes I confessed
Stood there in my vest
With a four day beard
Clutching her bottle of angry chimp moonshine
Well I tried to let go
I know you already did
But you just keep cropping up in my mind somewhere
Let’s keep it simple
I did you wrong
And now I keep a vigil
And I pray it won’t be long
Here comes the man, the man of the moment
Don't try to hold him back
Can't keep a good man down
I know your patience has worn dangerously thin
But everything I'm telling you is genuine
No I'm not fooling you around

He looks like his dog, she looks like her mother
Her face is Botoxed beyond all recognition
Red wine lips, sunken eyes
Orange cheeks, steak 'n' ale pies
Your expression is one of constant surprise
Your laughter lines are screaming: “I’m crying inside!”
I mistook his face for an ashtray
A punchbag full of strange channels and curves
Your life is etched out in those sorry trenches
We all get the face we deserve
I don’t need your handshake, your life story
No promises, least of all your word
The boatrace is sinking, it’s a punch we can’t swerve
I see the triumph and the tragedy played out on your mug
We all get the face we deserve
You'll see the truth
When we come together face-to-face
Wherever you’ve been, people you’ve seen
Jokes you laughed at, shouts in the night
Valleys of tears that litter your skin
Punches and bruises you’ve taken and given
And all of your sin, most of all your sin
Hopes and fears play out in your features
They take a life of their own, disobedient creatures
There’s your hope, your humiliation
Here’s where it waved goodbye, left the station
There’s your first love, she was so cute
He was so handsome, now he’s a brute
Here’s your kids, it’s your mum and dad
Your face caught fire, they put it out with a baseball bat
Bags, jowls, fake tan sneers
Looks like you got some kidney disease
You know, gravity is ruthless, you can’t stop the rot
Start out as an angel baby
You end up like a bulldog chewing a wasp
You'll see the truth
When we come together face-to-face

Sometimes words fail me, so we left this one as an instrumental. We tried to take it to the nearest faraway place.
